Bernard Watson, Jr. serves the Watson Family Foundation as co-Founder and Chairman of the Board.
The son of two long-time educators, Mr. Watson understands the importance of education and the challenges students face when seeking the pathways to successful futures. He champions the Watson Family Foundation’s vision to positively impact students and guide them towards postsecondary opportunities.
Mr. Watson is currently the Director of Community and Media Relations for Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), the nation’s 11th largest school district, and the largest in the state of Georgia, serving more than 180,000 students. He is also the founder of the Success Through Education Planning and Perseverance (S.T.E.P.P.) Foundation. A sister organization to the Watson Family Foundation, The S.T.E.P,P. Foundation is the executor of the Barbra Watson-Riley Striving Students Scholarship Program. The ground-breaking program provides college savings accounts and seed money in GCPS.
