The Success Through Education, Planning and Perseverance (S.T.E.P.P.) Foundation founded by Bernard C. Watson, Jr., in partnership with Renasant Bank (formerly Brand Bank), adopted two classes of 6th grade students who attend Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). GCPS is the 11th largest school district (34% Hispanic, 33% African American, 18% White, 11% Asian/Pacific Islander). Each student was provided a college savings account and seed money. Additional deposits are earned each year based on grade point average, attendance, good behavior, and financial literacy. The scholarships are named after Attorney Barbra Watson Riley, Bernard's sister (deceased).
The Watson Family Foundation is committed to supporting students in their pursuit and accomplishment of higher education goals. The foundation is actively partnering with academic, community, and corporate entities to build opportunities for students to realize their potential.
